This black replacement bezel for the iPad 2 is used to replace a damaged bezel, usually resulting from a fall that has cracked the front glass. It's recommended that you replace the bezel when replacing the glass, because it tends to get damaged during the removal of your broken screen.
The gasket is also used when changing the color of the glass so that it matches the new glass.
The bezel is held to the perimeter by a light adhesive stuck to the inside of the casing. This adhesive can usually be reused to adhere the new bezel. Additionally, once the glass is installed it will hold the new bezel in place.
